If Allah has graced a person with patience, that is the finest and most expansive gift he can ever receive. Thus you will notice that a patient person—even if wronged by others, even if he hears from them what he dislikes, even if they assault him—remains calm. He neither stiffens nor loses his temper, because he is patient with what Allah has decreed for him. For that reason his heart is always tranquil and his soul at ease.
That is why the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, “No one has been given a gift better and more encompassing than patience.” And Allah is the One who grants success.
27– Abu Yahya Suhayb ibn Sinan, may Allah be pleased with him, reported that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: “How amazing is the believer’s affair! All of his circumstances are good for him, and this is for no one except the believer: if prosperity comes to him he is grateful, and that is good for him; and if adversity befalls him he is patient, and that is good for him.” (Muslim)
Explanation
The compiler—may Allah have mercy on him—transmitted from Suhayb the Roman that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: “How amazing is the believer’s affair; all of it is good for him,” meaning that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, expressed amazement in a manner of admiration at the believer’s condition. Indeed, every aspect of his state is good, and this is true for no one except the believer.
