Sharḥ Riyāḍ al-ṢāliḥīnIbn al-'Uthaymin

continuing to repeat, “Do not become angry,” because anger can at times lead to grave corruption: a person may curse himself, curse his religion, curse his Lord, divorce his wife, shatter a vessel, or even burn his own clothes. Numerous incidents committed by people in a rage appear as though they issued from a madman.

For this reason the stronger legal opinion is that if a man becomes so enraged that he loses control of himself and then pronounces divorce upon his wife, the divorce does not take effect. It occurred under overwhelming compulsion rather than deliberate choice, and a divorce uttered under coercion is invalid. Allah is the One who grants success.
