against those notables of Quraysh.
The point is that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was subjected to the harshest kinds of abuse, yet he kept pardoning, overlooking, proceeding with patience, and hoping for their guidance. Allah—praise be to Him—granted him what he sought and bestowed on him a clear, decisive victory.
Likewise, a person should persevere in the face of harm, especially when he is harmed for Allah’s sake: he must be patient, seek his reward with Allah, and await relief. The Prophet ﷺ said, “And know that victory comes with patience, relief comes with affliction, and with hardship comes ease.” Allah knows best.
2/644 – ʿĀʾishah (may Allah be pleased with her) reported: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ never struck anything with his own hand—neither a woman nor a servant—except when he was fighting in the path of Allah. He never took revenge for anything done to him personally, but when one of Allah’s sacred limits was violated, he would retaliate for Allah’s sake. Reported by Muslim.
3/645 – Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I was walking with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while he was wearing a Najrani cloak with a coarse border. A Bedouin caught up with him and tugged at the cloak so violently that I noticed the edge of the cloak had left a mark on the Prophet’s neck. The man then said, “O Muhammad, command that I be given some of Allah’s wealth that is with you.” The Prophet turned toward him, smiled, and ordered that he be given something. Agreed upon.
