to the Prophet ﷺ. Muʿādh then came to the Messenger of Allah as well, and the Prophet said to him, “Are you trying to put people to hardship, Muʿādh?”
Concerning another man, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ likewise said, “Some of you drive people away; so whoever leads the people in prayer should make it brief.”
Repelling people is improper; do not turn them away—be gentle with them. Even in calling others to Allah, do not invite them in a manner that alienates. When you see someone in error, do not burst out, “So-and-so, you have violated, you have sinned, you are such-and-such,” and the like. Such words only push them further and make them persist in sin. Instead, address them with ease and kindness until they feel comfortable with you and with what you are calling them to. By doing so, you will be implementing the Prophet’s ﷺ directive: “Give glad tidings and do not repel people.”
So, my brother, take this ḥadīth as your greatest asset: “Make things easy, not difficult; give glad tidings, do not repel.” Walk toward Allah on this foundation, follow this path with His servants, and you will find every good. Allah is the One who grants success.
