Thus, it was their humility before the truth and their obedience to the messengers that elevated them to those lofty ranks. As for the arrogant ones who boasted of the hordes and wealth with which Allah had enriched them, none of that availed them in the least. This points to the virtue of humbling oneself to the truth. We ask Allah to make us and you among those who are humble before Him and before the truth brought by His messengers; surely He is powerful over all things.
1/202 – Iyad ibn Himar (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “Allah has revealed to me that you must be humble, so that no one boasts over another and no one wrongs another.” Reported by Muslim.
2/603 – Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “Charity never diminishes wealth; Allah only increases a servant in honor when he pardons, and no one humbles himself for Allah’s sake except that Allah raises him.” Reported by Muslim.
4/604 – He (Abu Hurayrah, may Allah be pleased with him) also said: “A slave-girl from among the slave-girls of Madinah would take the Prophet’s hand (peace and blessings be upon him) and lead him wherever she wished.” Reported by al-Bukhari.
