all of these verses show that a person must curb his long hopes and prepare for the Hereafter. May Allah make us and you among those who ready themselves for it through righteous deeds.
Allah the Exalted says:
“O you who believe, let not your wealth nor your children distract you from the remembrance of Allah. Whoever does so—it is they who are the losers. And spend from what We have provided you before death comes to one of you and he says, ‘My Lord, if only You would delay me for a short term so that I might give in charity and be among the righteous.’ But Allah will never delay a soul when its appointed term has arrived. Allah is fully aware of what you do.” (63:9–11)
He also says:
“Until, when death comes to one of them, he says, ‘My Lord, send me back, so that I may do righteousness in that which I left behind.’ No indeed—it is but a word he speaks. Behind them is a barrier until the Day they are resurrected. Then, when the Trumpet is blown, there will be no kinship between them that Day, nor will they question one another. So whoever’s scales are heavy—it is they who will prosper. And whoever’s scales are light—it is they who have ruined themselves; they will abide in Hell forever. The Fire will scorch their faces, and there they will grimace. (It will be said), ‘Were My revelations not recited to you, yet you used to deny them?’ They will say, ‘Our Lord, our wretchedness overwhelmed us and we were a people astray. Our Lord, bring us out of it; and if we return (to sin), then indeed we would be wrongdoers.’ He will say, ‘Remain despised therein and do not speak to Me. A group of My servants used to say, “Our Lord, we believe, so forgive us and have mercy on us; You are the best of those who show mercy.” But you took them in ridicule until it made you forget My remembrance, and you kept laughing at them.’” (23:99–110)
