al-Bukhari.
13/469 – Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: “I saw seventy of the ahl al-ṣuffa (People of the Veranda), and not one of them had a cloak. Each possessed only a loincloth or a mantle that he had tied around his neck; some reached halfway down the shins, others reached the ankles. He would hold it together with his hand, fearing that his private parts might be exposed.” Related by al-Bukhari.
14/470 – He also reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “The world is a prison for the believer and a garden for the unbeliever.” Related by Muslim.
[Explanation]
All of the hadiths the author, may Allah have mercy on him, has presented point to detachment from the world.
Among them is the report of Abu Dharr and Abu Hurayrah in which the Prophet ﷺ said: “It would not please me to possess gold equal to Mount Uhud, and for three nights to pass while a single dinar of it remained with me—apart from something I set aside to pay a debt—without distributing it among the servants of Allah like this, like this, and like this,” and he gestured to his right, to his left, and to his rear.
This shows that the Prophet ﷺ was among the most ascetic of people regarding worldly life; he did not wish to store up wealth except that which was earmarked for settling a debt, and he passed away ﷺ
