6/462 – Still on the authority of Anas, may Allah be pleased with him, who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ declared, “The person who enjoyed the greatest luxury in worldly life but is destined for the Fire will be brought on the Day of Resurrection. He will be dipped once into the Fire, and it will be said to him, ‘O son of Adam, did you ever see any good? Did you ever experience any delight?’ He will answer, ‘No, by Allah, my Lord.’
Then the one who endured the severest hardship in worldly life yet is destined for Paradise will be brought. He will be dipped once into Paradise, and it will be said to him, ‘O son of Adam, did you ever see any misery? Did you ever suffer any hardship?’ He will reply, ‘No, by Allah! Never have I faced misery, nor have I seen hardship at all.’” Narrated by Muslim.
7/463 – Al-Mustawrid ibn Shaddād, may Allah be pleased with him, reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “The life of this world, in comparison with the Hereafter, is like one of you dipping his finger into the sea—let him see with what it returns.” Narrated by Muslim.
8/464 – Jābir, may Allah be pleased with him, related that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed through the marketplace while the people stood to either side of him. He came upon a dead, stunted-eared kid, took hold of its ear, and said, “Which of you would like to have this for a dirham?” They replied, “We would not want it for anything; what could we do with it?”
He then asked, “Would you like it to be yours (for nothing)?” They said, “By Allah, even if it were alive it would be defective, for its ears are small—so how about now that it is dead?”
He said, “By Allah, this world is more insignificant to Allah than this (dead kid) is to you.” Narrated by Muslim.
