6/451 — Anas reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to Ubayy ibn Kaʿb, "Allah has ordered me to recite to you: lam yakun alladhīna kafarū (Sūrat al-Bayyinah, 98:1)." Ubayy asked, "Did He mention me by name?" He replied, "Yes." At this, Ubayy burst into tears. Agreed upon. In another narration: "Ubayy began to weep."
7/452 — Anas also reported: After the death of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, Abū Bakr said to ʿUmar, "Come with me to visit Umm Ayman, just as the Messenger of Allah used to visit her." When they reached her, she wept. They said, "Why are you weeping? Do you not know that what is with Allah is better for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ?" She replied, "I am not weeping because I do not know that what is with Allah is better for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ; rather, I weep because revelation has ceased coming down from heaven." Her words moved them to tears, and they began to weep with her. Narrated by Muslim, and cited earlier in the chapter on visiting righteous people.
8/453 — Ibn ʿUmar reported: When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ grew gravely ill, he was asked about the prayer. He said, "Instruct Abū Bakr to lead the people in prayer." ʿĀʾishah said, "Abū Bakr is a tender-hearted man; when he recites the Quran, his weeping overcomes him." He replied, "Tell him to lead the prayer."
In another version, ʿĀʾishah said, "I remarked, ‘If Abū Bakr stands in your place, the people will not be able to hear him because of his weeping.’" Agreed upon.
