50 – Chapter on Fear
Allah the Exalted says, “So fear Me alone.” [al-Baqarah: 40]
He also says, “Indeed, the grasp of your Lord is severe.” [al-Burūj: 12]
He further says, “Such is the seizing of your Lord when He seizes the towns while they are doing wrong. His seizing is truly painful and severe. Surely in that is a sign for anyone who fears the punishment of the Hereafter. That is a Day on which all people will be gathered, a Day that will be witnessed. We delay it only for a fixed term. On the Day it comes, no soul will speak except by His permission; some of them will be wretched and others blessed. As for those who are wretched, they will be in the Fire, where they will gasp and groan.” [Hūd: 102-106]
He says, “Allah warns you of Himself.” [Āl ‘Imrān: 28]
He also says, “The Day a man will flee from his brother, his mother, his father, his wife, and his children; every person that Day will have a matter to occupy him.” [‘Abasa: 34-37]
He says, “O mankind, fear your Lord! The quaking of the Hour is a momentous thing. On the Day you see it, every nursing mother will forget the child she is nursing, every pregnant woman will miscarry, and you will see people appearing drunk though they are not drunk—but the punishment of Allah is severe.” [al-Hajj: 1-2]
He says, “For whoever fears standing before his Lord there shall be two gardens.” [al-Raḥmān: 46]
And He says, “They will turn to one another, questioning each other. They will say, ‘Indeed, we were previously, while among our families, full of apprehension; so Allah favored us and protected us from the torment of the scorching wind. Truly, before this we used to call upon Him—indeed, He is the Most Kind, the Most Merciful.’” [al-Ṭūr: 25-28]
