13/372 — ʿAsīr ibn ʿAmr—some say ibn Jābir (with the hamzah pronounced with ḍammah and the sīn with fatḥah)—narrated: ʿUmar ibn al-Khattāb (may Allah be pleased with him) used to question every contingent arriving from Yemen, “Is Uways ibn ʿĀmir among you?” When at last he met Uways (may Allah have mercy on him) he asked, “Are you Uways ibn ʿĀmir?” He replied, “Yes.” ʿUmar said, “Of the tribe of Murād and then of Qaran?” He answered, “Yes.” “You once suffered from leucoderma and were cured of it except for a spot the size of a dirham?” “Yes.” “And you have a mother?” “Yes.”
