3/343 – Abu Usayd—Malik ibn Rabiʿah al-Saʿidi (may Allah be pleased with him)—reported: “While we were sitting with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), a man from Banu Salamah came and asked, ‘Messenger of Allah, is there any act of filial devotion left by which I can honour my parents after they have died?’ He replied, ‘Yes: praying for them, asking forgiveness for them, fulfilling the pledges they left behind, maintaining the kinship ties that exist only through them, and honouring their friends.’” Reported by Abu Dawud.
4/344 – ʿAishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: “I never felt jealous of any of the Prophet’s wives as I felt jealous of Khadijah (may Allah be pleased with her), even though I never saw her. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to mention her frequently, and sometimes he would slaughter a sheep, cut it into pieces, and send the portions to Khadijah’s close friends. I would say to him, ‘It is as though there is no woman in the world but Khadijah!’ and he would reply, ‘She was who she was, and I had children from her.’” Agreed upon.
Another version states: “He would indeed slaughter a sheep and send portions of it to her intimate friends, giving each what would suffice her.”
In another wording: “Whenever he slaughtered a sheep he would say, ‘Send it to Khadijah’s friends.’”
Yet another narration reads: “Halah bint Khuwaylid, Khadijah’s sister, once asked permission to enter upon the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). Recognising her manner of seeking permission as that of Khadijah, he was delighted and said, ‘O Allah, [here is] Halah bint Khuwaylid!’”
