The phrase “yunsaʾ lahu fī atharihi” means that his appointed term—his lifetime—is deferred, i.e., his years are prolonged.
9/320 — Also on his authority: Abu Talhah was the wealthiest of the Anṣār in Medina in date-palms, and the dearest of his properties to him was a garden named Bayrahāʾ, situated opposite the mosque. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ would enter it and drink from its pleasant water. When the verse, “You will never attain righteousness until you spend of that which you love; and whatever you spend, Allah is fully aware of it” (Āl ʿImrān 3:92), was revealed, Abu Talhah went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, “O Messenger of Allah, Allah—Exalted is He—says: ‘You will never attain righteousness until you spend of that which you love; and whatever you spend, Allah is fully aware of it.’ Now, the property I love most is Bayrahāʾ, and I give it in charity for the sake of Allah, hoping for its goodness and the treasure it will become with Allah. So place it, O Messenger of Allah, wherever Allah shows you.” The Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied, “Excellent! That is profitable wealth—profitable wealth indeed. I have heard what you have said, and I think you should distribute it among your close relatives.” Abu Talhah said, “I will do so, O Messenger of Allah,” and he divided it among his relatives and paternal cousins. Agreed upon.
The wording of this narration was previously explained in the chapter on spending from what one loves.
10/321 — ʿAbdullāh ibn ʿAmr ibn al-ʿĀṣ (may Allah be pleased with them) reported: A man came to the Prophet of Allah ﷺ and said, “I pledge allegiance to you for emigration and fighting, seeking reward from Allah.” He asked, “Do you have either of your parents alive?” He replied, “Yes—both of them.” He said, “And you seek reward from Allah?” He answered, “Yes.” He said, “Then return to your parents and keep the best company with them.” Agreed upon; this is Muslim’s wording.
