This shows that the husband has authority over his household to prevent even his wife’s own mother from entering if he so chooses, and likewise her sister, her maternal aunt, or her paternal aunt. Yet he should not bar any of them unless their presence is harmful to him or to his home, for some women—Allah protect us—bring no benefit and instead harm both their daughters and their daughters’ husbands. Such a mother comes to her daughter and fills her with hostility and rancor toward her spouse until she comes to detest him. A mother of this sort ought not to have contact with her daughter, for she ruins the marriage just like the sorcerers who learn how to drive a wedge between a man and his wife.
3/283 — Ibn ʿUmar, may Allah be pleased with them both, narrated that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “Each of you is a shepherd and each of you will be questioned about his flock. A ruler is a shepherd, a man is a shepherd over the people of his household, and a woman is a shepherd over her husband’s house and his children. So each of you is a shepherd and each of you will be questioned about his flock.” Agreed upon.
4/284 — Abū ʿAlī Ṭalq ibn ʿAlī, may Allah be pleased with him, narrated that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “When a man calls his wife to fulfill his need, she should come to him even if she is at the oven.” Reported by al-Tirmidhī and al-Nasāʾī; al-Tirmidhī said, “A ḥadīth that is sound and authentic.”
5/285 — Abū Hurayrah, may Allah be pleased with him, narrated that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “If I were to command anyone to prostrate to another, I would have commanded a woman to prostrate to her husband.” Reported by al-Tirmidhī, who said, “A ḥadīth that is sound and authentic.”
