35 — Chapter: The Husband’s Rights over His Wife
Allah the Exalted says: “Men are caretakers of women by virtue of what Allah has given one over the other and of what they spend from their wealth. Thus, righteous women are devoutly obedient and guard, in the husband’s absence, what Allah would have them guard.” (Sūrat al-Nisāʾ 4:34)
As for the prophetic reports, among them is the ḥadīth of ʿAmr ibn al-Aḥwaṣ mentioned in the preceding chapter.
1/281 — Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) related that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “When a man summons his wife to his bed and she refuses, so that he spends the night angry with her, the angels curse her until morning.” Agreed upon.
In another wording reported by both collections: “If a woman spends the night away from her husband’s bed, the angels curse her until morning.”
And in yet another narration the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “By Him in whose hand is my soul, whenever a man calls his wife to his bed and she declines, the One who is in heaven remains displeased with her until he (the husband) is satisfied with her.”
