- To eradicate the wrongdoing.
- To honor the invitation.
If, however, you attend while unable to remove the wrongdoing, then your presence is forbidden.
Fourth condition: the invitee must be named explicitly. In other words, the host must say, “So-and-so, I invite you to attend the wedding feast.” If he merely issues a general invitation in a gathering—“Everyone, we are holding a wedding celebration and banquet; please come”—you are not obliged to attend, for the invitation was general and did not single you out.
Therefore, the host must specify the person; without such specification, attendance is not obligatory. Nonetheless, one should strive to accept every invitation, for answering a Muslim’s invitation is one of the rights he has over his fellow Muslim—unless declining brings about a greater benefit, in which case that benefit should be pursued.
8/267 – Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet ﷺ said, “Whoever supports two girls until they reach maturity will come on the Day of Resurrection with me like these,” and he joined his forefinger and middle finger. Narrated by Muslim. “Two girls” here means two daughters.
[Commentary]
This ḥadīth extols the virtue of caring for daughters. A girl is typically weak, dependent, and vulnerable, and in many families she is not given the attention or concern she deserves.
