from the road is charity.” Agreed upon.
The phrase “you reconcile them” means: you make peace between the two of them with fairness.
[Explanation]
The author has already cited the noble verse that highlights the merit of bringing about reconciliation among people. He then followed it with the ḥadith of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) in which the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Every joint of a person’s body must offer a charity each day the sun rises.” The term salāmā denotes the bones and joints; in other words, every time the sun rises, a charity is due on each of your joints.
Scholars of fiqh and ḥadith state that the human body contains three hundred and sixty bones or joints. Therefore, every person is required to give three hundred and sixty acts of charity every day the sun rises. Charity, however, is not limited to money; in its broad sense, anything that draws one nearer to Allah counts as charity, because doing such acts proves the doer’s sincerity in seeking the pleasure of Allah, exalted is He.
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) then specified some of these acts, saying: “Reconciling two people with justice is charity,” meaning that when two individuals come to you disputing, you judge between them with fairness. Whatever accords with the Sharīʿah is justice, and whatever contradicts the Sharīʿah is oppression and wrongdoing.
Accordingly, we say that those man-made laws by which some people judge, when they conflict with Allah’s law, are not just; rather, they are oppression, injustice, and falsehood. Whoever rules by them
