Abu Hurayrah reported: “The Prophet ﷺ kissed al-Hasan ibn ʿAli while al-Aqraʿ ibn Ḥābis was present. Al-Aqraʿ remarked, ‘I have ten children and I have never kissed any of them.’ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ looked at him and said, ‘Whoever shows no mercy will receive no mercy.’” Agreed upon.
[Explanation]
The author—may Allah have mercy on him—has cited several hadiths that teach gentleness toward the Muslims. Among them is the narration of Abu Musa al-Ashʿari: the Prophet ﷺ said, “Whoever passes through any of our mosques or marketplaces carrying arrows should hold them, or clasp their points in his palm.”
The word nabl refers to the arrows shot from a bow. Their tips are always sharp and pierce whatever they strike. When a person keeps a firm grip on them he shields others from their danger, but if he leaves them exposed they may harm people. Someone might approach hastily and be scratched, or the man himself might brush against others while holding uncovered arrows and wound them as well.
