Sharḥ Riyāḍ al-ṢāliḥīnIbn al-'Uthaymin

I would surely have been among the God-fearing; or it might say, when it sees the punishment, “If only I had another chance, I would be one of the doers of good.” But no! My signs did come to you, yet you denied them, grew arrogant, and became one of the disbelievers. (Az-Zumar, 53-59)

This ḥadith contains a warning against spending wealth on what brings no benefit and against meddling in it unlawfully, for Allah has made wealth a means by which people’s religious and worldly affairs are maintained. When a person gives it away in matters that serve no valid interest, he becomes someone who is tampering with the property of Allah without right.
