are only doing this to show off,’ seeking thereby to sap your determination and keep you from acting. Pay no heed to such talk, do not obey him; go ahead and do the deed even if he repeats, ‘You are merely showing off or courting fame.’ Were someone to ask you at that very moment, ‘Are you performing this deed for display and reputation?’ you would answer, ‘No!’ Therefore, the whisper that Satan has insinuated into your heart deserves no attention. Ignore it and proceed with the good, and do not say, ‘I am a pretender,’ or anything of that sort.
1- From the Commander of the Believers, Abū Ḥafṣ ʿUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb ibn Nufayl ibn ʿAbd al-ʿUzzā ibn Rabāḥ ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Qurṭ ibn Rizāḥ ibn ʿAdiyy ibn Kaʿb ibn Luʾayy ibn Ghālib, the Qurashī, the ʿAdawī (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, “Actions are only by intentions, and every person shall have but what he intended. So whoever’s migration was to Allah and His Messenger, his migration is to Allah and His Messenger; and whoever’s migration was for some worldly gain or to marry a woman, his migration is to whatever he migrated for.” ⦗Agreed upon as authentic⦘—narrated by the two leading imams of hadith: Abū ʿAbdullāh Muḥammad ibn Ismāʿīl ibn Ibrāhīm ibn al-Mughīrah ibn Bardizbah al-Juʿfī al-Bukhārī and Abū l-Ḥusayn Muslim ibn al-Ḥajjāj ibn Muslim al-Qushayrī an-Naysābūrī (d. 261 AH) in their two Ṣaḥīḥs, the most authentic books ever compiled.
