then indeed he has exacted retribution for himself before he dies, for the Prophet ﷺ said to Muʿādh, “Beware the supplication of the oppressed, for there is no barrier between it and Allah.”
Thus, if the wronged person calls down a curse upon his oppressor in this life and his plea is answered, the reckoning has already taken place here in this world. But if he remains silent—neither invoking punishment upon him nor pardoning him—then retribution will be taken on his behalf on the Day of Resurrection. Allah’s help is sought.
205 – Ibn ʿUmar (may Allah be pleased with both of them) said: We used to talk about the Farewell Pilgrimage while the Prophet ﷺ was still among us, yet we did not know what the Farewell Pilgrimage was—until the Messenger of Allah ﷺ praised Allah and extolled Him, then mentioned the Antichrist and spoke at length about him. He said, “Allah has not sent a prophet without his warning his community about him. Noah warned his people of him, and so did the prophets after him. Should he appear among you, nothing that is unclear about him will remain hidden from you. Your Lord is not one-eyed, whereas he is blind in his right eye; it looks like a protruding grape.
Behold, Allah has declared your lives and your wealth inviolable to one another, just as inviolable as this day of yours, in this city of yours, in this month of yours. Have I conveyed the message?” They replied, “Yes.” He said, “O Allah, bear witness—three times. Woe to you, or pity upon you, see to it that you do not revert after me as unbelievers, striking the necks of one another.”
Reported by al-Bukhārī, and Muslim narrates part of it.
