- Ahmad informed us: Muhammad narrated to us; Ahmad ibn Zuhayr narrated to us; one of our companions related to me that Abu Salih—that is, al-Farra—said: Ata al-Khaffaf said:
“I was with al-Awzai when he wished to write to Abu Ishaq al-Fazari. He said to the scribe, ‘Write, and begin with him, for by Allah, he is better than I am.’”
Abu Salih said: “I met Fudayl ibn Iyad, and he offered me condolences over Abu Ishaq. He said, ‘At times I long for al-Massisah—not out of any desire for the virtue of frontier garrisoning, but only to see Abu Ishaq.’”
Ibn Khaythamah said: “All these reports are from a companion of ours in Basra named Muhammad ibn Harun Abu Nashit.”
٥٢ - وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ , ثنا مُحَمَّدٌ , ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ زُهَيْرٍ , حَدَّثَنِي بَعْضُ أَصْحَابِنَا قَالَ أَبُو صَالِحٍ يَعْنِي الْفَرَّاءَ: قَالَ عَطَاءٌ الْخَفَّافُ: كُنْتُ عِنْدَ الْأَوْزَاعِيِّ وَأَرَادَ أَنْ يَكْتُبَ إِلَى أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ الْفَزَارِيِّ فَقَالَ لِلْكَاتِبِ: " اكْتُبْ , وَابْدَأْ بِهِ , فَإِنَّهُ وَاللَّهِ خَيْرٌ مِنِّي. قَالَ أَبُو صَالِحٍ: " لَقِيتُ فُضَيْلَ بْنَ عِيَاضٍ فَعَزَّانِي بِأَبِي إِسْحَاقَ , وَقَالَ: «لَرُبَّمَا اشْتَقْتُ إِلَى الْمِصِّيصَةِ مَا بِي فَضْلُ الرِّبَاطِ إِلَّا أَرَى أَبَا إِسْحَاقَ» قَالَ ابْنُ خَيْثَمَةَ: " هَذِهِ الْأَحَادِيثُ كُلُّهَا عَنْ صَاحِبٍ لَنَا بِالْبَصْرَةِ يُقَالُ لَهُ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ أَبُو نَشِيطٍ.
