891 — Al-Husayn ibn Ahmad ibn Ibrahim al-Asadi informed us; al-Hasan ibn al-Husayn related to us; Muhammad ibn Harun ibn Hafs related to us; I heard Ibrahim ibn Abi Dawud al-Burullusi al-Misri say:
“We were sitting with Nuʿaym ibn Hammad when Nuʿaym said to al-Muzani, ‘What do you say concerning the Quran?’ He replied, ‘I say that it is the Speech of Allah.’ He asked, ‘Uncreated?’ He replied, ‘Uncreated.’ He then asked, ‘And do you say that Allah will be seen on the Day of Resurrection?’ He replied, ‘Yes.’
“When the people dispersed, al-Muzani went over to him and said, ‘O Abu ʿAbd Allah, you have exposed me before all the people.’ He replied, ‘People have said much about you, so I wished to clear you [of suspicion].’”
٨٩١ - أَخْبَرَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الْأَسَدِيُّ، قَالَ: ثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ، قَالَ: ثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ بْنِ حَفْصٍ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنَ أَبِي دَاوُدَ الْبُرُلُّسِيُّ الْمِصْرِيُّ، يَقُولُ: كُنَّا عِنْدَ نُعَيْمِ بْنِ حَمَّادٍ جُلُوسًا , فَقَالَ نُعَيْمٌ لِلْمُزَنِيِّ: مَا تَقُولُ فِي الْقُرْآنِ؟ فَقَالَ: أَقُولُ: إِنَّهُ كَلَامُ اللَّهِ , فَقَالَ غَيْرُ مَخْلُوقٍ؟ فَقَالَ: غَيْرُ مَخْلُوقٍ , قَالَ: وَتَقُولُ: إِنَّ اللَّهَ يُرَى يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ؟ فَقَالَ: نَعَمْ , قَالَ: فَلَمَّا افْتَرَقَ النَّاسُ قَامَ إِلَيْهِ الْمُزَنِيُّ فَقَالَ: يَا أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ شَهَّرْتَنِي عَلَى رُءُوسِ النَّاسِ , فَقَالَ: إِنَّ النَّاسَ قَدْ أَكْثَرُوا فِيكَ فَأَرَدْتُ أَنْ أُبَرِّئُكَ
