873 — Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi Hatim mentioned him and said: My father narrated to us: Abu Salih, the scribe of al-Layth, said: “Abd al-Aziz ibn Abi Salamah al-Majishun dictated to me, and I asked him about what the ⦗557⦘ Jahmiyyah had introduced. He said:
‘Satan continued to dictate to them until they denied the saying of Allah, exalted is He: “Faces that Day will be radiant, looking at their Lord” [al-Qiyamah 75:22–23]. They said, “No one will see Him on the Day of Resurrection.” By Allah, they have denied the greatest honor Allah will bestow upon His close allies on the Day of Resurrection: beholding His Face and His making them radiant in a seat of truth before an All-Powerful Sovereign.
‘By the Lord of heaven and earth, He will surely make the vision of Him on the Day of Resurrection a reward for those who are sincere to Him, by which He will make their faces radiant, to the exclusion of the sinners; and by it He will establish their proof against the deniers and their followers. As for them, on that Day they will be veiled from their Lord: they will not see Him, just as they claimed that He cannot be seen. Nor will He speak to them or look at them, and theirs will be a painful punishment.’
How has he—woe to him—not taken warning from the saying of Allah, exalted is He: “No! Indeed, from their Lord that Day, they will be veiled” [al-Mutaffifin 83:15]? Does he suppose that Allah would banish them, make them self-sufficient, and punish them over a matter concerning which this evildoer claims that he and Allah’s close allies are alike?
