- Ali informed us: Abd al-Rahman related to us; my father informed me; Ahmad ibn Ibrahim al-Dawraqi narrated to us; al-Qasim ibn Sallam narrated to me; Abd al-Rahman ibn Mahdi informed me. He said:
“There was no one in Syria more knowledgeable of the sunnah than al-Awza‘i.”
٤٦ - وَأَخْبَرَنَا عَلِيٌّ , أنبا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ , أَخْبَرَنِي أَبِي , ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الدَّوْرَقِيُّ , حَدَّثَنِي الْقَاسِمُ بْنُ سَلَّامٍ , أَخْبَرَنِي عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ , قَالَ: «مَا كَانَ بِالشَّامِ أَحَدٌ أَعْلَمَ بِالسُّنَّةِ مِنَ الْأَوْزَاعِيِّ»
