846 – Abd al-Rahman mentioned it and said: Abu Zur‘ah narrated to us; Sulayman ibn Abd al-Rahman narrated to us; al-Walid ibn Muslim narrated to us; Abu Bakr ibn Abi Maryam narrated to us, from Habib ibn Ubayd ibn Suhayb, from Zayd ibn Thabit: The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, taught him this supplication and instructed him to ensure that his household recited it every morning:
“At Your service, O Allah, at Your service; at Your service, and all felicity is from You. All good is in Your Hands; it comes from You, is through You, and returns to You. O Allah, whatever statement I have made, oath I have sworn, or vow I have made is subject to Your will. Whatever You will happens, and whatever You do not will does not happen. There is no power and no strength except through You. Indeed, You are capable of all things.
“O Allah, whatever blessings I invoke, let them be upon those whom You bless; and whatever curse I utter, let it be upon those whom You curse.
‘You are my Protector in this world and in the Hereafter. Cause me to die as a Muslim and join me with the righteous.’ [Yusuf: 101]
“O Allah, I ask You for contentment after Your decree, a pleasant life after death, the delight of gazing upon Your Face, and longing to meet You without harmful adversity or misguiding tribulation. I seek refuge in You, O Allah, from wronging or being wronged, from transgressing or being transgressed against, or from committing a sin in return for a sin, ⦗543⦘ or committing a sin that You will not forgive.
“O Allah, Originator of the heavens and the earth, Knower of the unseen and the visible, Possessor of Majesty and Honor: I make this covenant with You in the life of this world and call You to witness—and You suffice as a Witness—that there is no god worthy of worship but You alone, without partner. To You belongs all dominion, and to You belongs all praise, and You are capable of all things. I bear witness that Muhammad is Your servant and Your Messenger. I bear witness that Your promise is true, that meeting You is true, that the Hour is coming without doubt, and that You will raise up those in the graves. I bear witness that if You leave me to myself, You leave me to ruin, vulnerability, sin, and wrongdoing. I place my trust in none but Your mercy, so forgive all my sins, for none forgives sins except You. Accept my repentance; indeed, You alone are the Ever-Accepting of repentance, the Most Merciful.”
