- Ali ibn Muhammad ibn Umar informed us; Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi Hatim informed us; Salih ibn Ahmad ibn Hanbal narrated to us; Ali ibn al-Madini narrated to me. He said: “I heard Abd al-Rahman ibn Mahdi say: ‘I have never seen anyone more knowledgeable than Hammad ibn Zayd of the sunnah, nor of the hadith that falls within the sunnah.’”
٣٩ - أَخْبَرَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عُمَرَ , أنبا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ أَبِي حَاتِمٍ , ثنا صَالِحُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ حَنْبَلٍ , حَدَّثَنِي عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْمَدِينِيِّ , قَالَ: " سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنَ مَهْدِيٍّ يَقُولُ: «لَمْ أَرَ أَحَدًا قَطُّ أَعْلَمَ بِالسُّنَّةِ وَلَا بِالْحَدِيثِ الَّذِي يَدْخُلُ فِي السُّنَّةِ مِنْ حَمَّادِ بْنِ زَيْدٍ»
