808 — Muhammad ibn Umar ibn Muhammad al-Anbari informed us. He said: Ahmad ibn Ya‘qub al-Qaranjuli informed us. He said: Ahmad ibn Asram ibn Khuzaymah al-Ma‘qili narrated to us. He said: Muhammad ibn Abd Allah ibn Abd al-Hakam narrated to us, reading from Ashhab ibn Abd al-Aziz, a companion of Malik, who said:
A man said to Malik, “O Abu Abd Allah, will the believers see their Lord on the Day of Resurrection?”
He replied, “Had the believers not been going to see their Lord on the Day of Resurrection, Allah would not have reproached the disbelievers for being veiled from Him. Thus, He said: ‘No indeed! On that Day they will be veiled from their Lord.’” [Quran 83:15]
Abu al-Abbas al-Ma‘qili said: Abu Musa al-Ansari also narrated it to us similarly, adding that the man said to him, “O Abu Abd Allah, some people claim that Allah cannot be seen.” Malik said, “The sword, the sword!”
