804—Abd al-Rahman cited it, saying: Abu Zur‘ah narrated to us; Salamah ibn Shabib Abu Abd al-Rahman narrated to us; Ibrahim ibn al-Hakam ibn Aban narrated to us; my father narrated to us, from Ikrimah, concerning His saying, “On that Day some faces will be radiant” [Quran 75:22]. He said: “Joyful and happy. ‘Looking toward their Lord’ [Quran 75:23].”
Ikrimah said: “Consider the light Allah has given His servant in his eyes: even if He were to place in the eyes of one of His servants the light of the eyes of all that Allah has created—humankind, jinn, beasts, birds, and every other creature—and then remove just one veil from the sun, while seventy veils remained before it, he would still be unable to look at the sun. Yet the sun is one seventieth of the light of the Kursi, the Kursi is one seventieth of the light of the Throne, and the Throne is one seventieth of the light of Allah. So consider the light He has given His servant in his eyes: that he may look directly upon the Face of his Noble Lord.”
Regarding the interpretation of His saying, “No indeed! On that Day they will be veiled from their Lord” [Quran 83:15], it is reported from al-Hasan, Muhammad ibn Ka‘b al-Qurazi, and Ibrahim al-Sa’igh: “It means looking upon Allah.” ⦗517⦘
Among the jurists who held this view were Malik, al-Majishun, al-Shafi‘i, Waki‘, and Muhammad ibn Abd Allah ibn Abd al-Hakam. Al-Hasan, Malik, and Ibn Abd al-Hakam said: “None will see Him except the believers; the disbelievers will not see Him.”
