- Ahmad ibn Ubayd informed us; Muhammad ibn al-Husayn informed us; Ahmad ibn Zuhayr narrated to us; Ahmad ibn Ibrahim narrated to us; Muhammad ibn Suwayd al-Hanafi narrated to me, who said: I heard Hammad ibn Zayd say: “When news reached Ayyub of the death of a young man from among the people of hadith, the sorrow was visible upon him; but when news reached him of the death of a man known for his worship, no such reaction was visible upon him.”
٣٤ - وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ , أنبا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ , ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ زُهَيْرٍ , ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ , حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سُوَيْدٍ الْحَنَفِيُّ , قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ حَمَّادَ بْنَ زَيْدٍ قَالَ: «كَانَ أَيُّوبُ يَبْلُغُهُ مَوْتُ الْفَتَى مِنْ أَصْحَابِ الْحَدِيثِ فَيُرَى ذَلِكَ فِيهِ , وَيَبْلُغُهُ مَوْتُ الرَّجُلِ يُذْكَرُ بِعِبَادَةٍ فَمَا يُرَى ذَلِكَ فِيهِ»
