764—ʿUbayd Allah ibn Ahmad informed us; he said: ʿAbd Allah ibn Muhammad ibn Ziyad informed us; he said: Muhammad ibn ʿAbd al-Malik narrated to us; he said: Yazid ibn Harun narrated to us; he said: al-Hajjaj informed us, from Yahya ibn Abi Kathir, from ʿUrwah, from Aisha, who said:

One night, I could not find the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him. Then I found him ⦗497⦘ in al-Baqiʿ, raising his head toward the sky. He said, “Did you fear that Allah and His Messenger would treat you unfairly?”

She said, “It was not that, Messenger of Allah; rather, I thought that you had gone to one of your other wives.”

He said, “Indeed, on the night of the middle of Shaʿban, Allah descends to the lowest heaven and forgives more people than the number of hairs on the sheep of Kalb.”

Also reported on this subject are narrations from ʿUthman ibn Abi al-ʿAs, Abu Thaʿlabah al-Khushani, Muʿadh ibn Jabal, ʿAbd al-Rahman ibn ʿAwf, Abu Musa al-Ashʿari, Sahl ibn Saʿd, and Abu al-Khattab—a man among the Companions of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him—through the narration of Israʾil ibn Yunus, from Thawr, from a man among the Companions of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, known as Abu al-Khattab.
