746 — Ubayd Allah ibn Ahmad ibn Ali informed us: Abd Allah ibn Muhammad ibn Ziyad informed us: Ahmad ibn Sa'id ibn Sakhr narrated to us: al-Nadr ibn Shumayl narrated to us: Shu'bah informed us, from Ishaq, from Muslim al-A'rabi, who said: I bear witness concerning Abu Hurayrah and Abu Sa'id that they bore witness concerning the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, that he said:
“Indeed, Allah grants respite until a third of the night has passed, then He descends to the lowest heaven and says, ‘Is there anyone who repents? Is there anyone who seeks forgiveness? Is there anyone who asks?’”
A man asked him, “Until dawn rises?” He replied, “Yes.” Muslim transmitted it through the narration of Shu'bah.
٧٤٦ - أَخْبَرَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ، قَالَ: ثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ سَعِيدِ بْنِ صَخْرٍ، قَالَ: ثَنَا النَّضْرُ بْنُ شُمَيْلٍ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ إِسْحَاقَ، عَنِ الْأَعْرَابِيِّ مُسْلِمٍ قَالَ: أَشْهَدُ عَلَى أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ وَأَبِي سَعِيدٍ أَنَّهُمَا شَهِدَا عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَنَّهُ قَالَ: " إِنَّ اللَّهَ يُمْهِلُ حَتَّى يَذْهَبَ ثُلُثُ اللَّيْلِ , ثُمَّ يَنْزِلُ إِلَى سَمَاءِ الدُّنْيَا فَيَقُولُ: هَلْ مِنْ تَائِبٍ؟ هَلْ مِنْ مُسْتَغْفِرٍ؟ هَلْ مِنْ طَالِبٍ؟ فَقَالَ لَهُ رَجُلٌ: حَتَّى يَطْلُعَ الْفَجْرُ؟ قَالَ: نَعَمْ , " أَخْرَجَهُ مُسْلِمٌ مِنْ حَدِيثِ شُعْبَةَ
