740 — Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Hafs informed us. He said: Muhammad ibn Ahmad ibn Salamah narrated to us. He said: Abu Muhammad Sahl ibn Uthman ibn Sa'id ibn Hakim al-Sulami said: I heard Abu Ishaq Ibrahim ibn al-Mahdi ibn Yunus say: I heard Abu Sulayman Dawud ibn Talhah say: I heard Abdullah ibn Abi Hanifah al-Dawsi say: I heard Muhammad ibn al-Hasan say:
“All the jurists, from East to West, are agreed upon believing in the Quran and the hadiths concerning the attributes of the Lord which trustworthy transmitters have related from the Messenger of Allah, without alteration, description, or likening. Whoever today interprets anything of this has departed from what the Prophet followed and has forsaken the main body of Muslims. For they neither described nor interpreted; rather, they gave legal rulings according to what is in the Book and the sunnah, then remained silent. Whoever adopts Jahm’s view has forsaken the main body of Muslims, for he has ascribed to Him an attribute of nonexistence.”
