728 — Ahmad informed us; Umar informed us; Ja‘far ibn Muhammad ibn Nusayr narrated to us; Muhammad ibn Kamil narrated to us; Sayyar—that is, Ibn Abd Allah—narrated to us; al-Sughdi ibn Sinan narrated to us; Ash‘ath related to me:

“I entered upon al-Qasim ibn Muhammad in one of his gardens. He disliked me for the sake of Allah, while I loved him for His sake. He said, ‘What has brought you to me? Leave me.’ I said, ‘I ask you by the Face of Allah to cut a cluster of dates for me.’ He said, ‘Boy, take a cluster of dates to him, for he has asked in a manner such that whoever refuses him will not prosper.’”
