727 — Ahmad ibn Muhammad al-Faqih informed us; Umar ibn Ahmad narrated to us; my father narrated to us; Ibrahim ibn Abd al-Rahim narrated to us; Muhammad ibn Mu‘awiyah related to me; Shu‘ayb ibn Bakr, the client of al-Zubayr, related to me; Hisham ibn Urwah related to me, from his father, who said ⦗476⦘:
“A beggar came to us and asked by the Face of Allah. Al-Zubayr then rose and struck him with a whip, saying, ‘Do you ask by the Face of Allah? Why did you not ask by the faces of people?’”
٧٢٧ - أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْفَقِيهُ، قَالَ: ثَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ، قَالَ: ثَنَا أَبِي قَالَ: ثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحِيمِ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُعَاوِيَةَ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي شُعَيْبُ بْنُ بَكْرٍ مَوْلَى الزُّبَيْرِ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي هِشَامُ بْنُ عُرْوَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، قَالَ ⦗٤٧٦⦘: " جَاءَنَا سَائِلٌ فَسَأَلَ بِوَجْهِ اللَّهِ قَالَ: فَقَامَ الزُّبَيْرُ فَعَلَاهُ بِالدِّرَّةِ فَقَالَ: أَبِوَجْهِ اللَّهِ تَسْأَلُ؟ أَلَا سَأَلْتَ بِوَجْهِ الْخَلْقِ
