Muhammad ibn al-Husayn ibn al-Fadl and Ubayd Allah ibn Ahmad informed us; they said: al-Husayn ibn Yahya informed us. Al-Hasan ibn Muhammad ibn al-Sabbah said: Abu Mu‘awiyah narrated to us. They both said: al-A‘mash narrated to us.

And Ahmad ibn Ubayd informed us; he said: Ali ibn Abd Allah ibn Mubashshir informed us; he said: Ahmad ibn Sinan narrated to us; he said: Abu Mu‘awiyah narrated to us; he said: al-A‘mash narrated to us, from Ibrahim, from Alqamah, from Abd Allah, who said:

“A man from the People of the Book came to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and said, ‘O Abu al-Qasim, have you heard that Allah, Most High, carries all creatures upon one finger, the heavens upon one finger, the earths upon one finger, the trees upon one finger, and the soil upon one finger?’ The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, laughed until his molars became visible. Then Allah, exalted is He, revealed: ‘They have not esteemed Allah as He deserves to be esteemed. On the Day of Resurrection, the whole earth will be in His grasp, and the heavens folded up in His right hand’—to the end of the verse.”

The wording is Ahmad’s. Muslim narrated it through this chain, and al-Bukhari narrated it through al-A‘mash’s report.
