693—Ubayd Allah ibn Ahmad informed us; he said: Ismaʿil ibn al-ʿAbbas al-Warraq narrated to us; he said: al-Hasan ibn Muhammad ibn al-Sabbah narrated to us; he said: Sufyan ibn ʿUyaynah narrated to us, from ʿAmr, from Tawus, who heard Abu Hurayrah say ⦗459⦘: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:

“Adam and Moses disputed. Moses said to Adam, ‘You are our father; you disappointed us and caused us to be expelled from Paradise.’ Adam replied, ‘You are Moses, whom Allah chose for His speech and for whom He wrote the Torah with His Hand. Do you blame me for something Allah had decreed for me forty years before He created me?’ Thus Adam prevailed over Moses in the argument.”

Al-Bukhari and Muslim transmitted it through Ibn ʿUyaynah.
