690 — Muhammad ibn Abd al-Rahman ibn al-Abbas informed us. He said: Abdullah ibn Abd al-Rahman al-Sukkari narrated to us. He said: Zakariyya ibn Yahya narrated to us. He said: al-Asma‘i narrated to us. He said: Abu Ikrimah narrated to us, from al-Hasan al-Ja‘fari, from Abu Ma‘mar, from al-Hasan, from al-Ahnaf ibn Qays, who said:

“I was with Umar ibn al-Khattab when I saw a woman with him saying, ‘O Commander of the Faithful, remember when you were in the loins of the idolaters and the wombs of the idolatresses, until Allah bestowed His favor upon you through Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him.’ ⦗456⦘

I said to her, ‘You have spoken at length to the Commander of the Faithful.’ Umar said, ‘Leave her. Do you not know who she is? She is the one whom Allah heard; so I have even more right to listen to her.’
