667 – Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Musa ibn al-Qasim informed us: Abu Bakr al-Anbari related to us. He said: Abu Bakr Muhammad ibn Ahmad ibn al-Nadr—who was the maternal grandson of Mu‘awiyah ibn Amr—related to us. He said:

“Abu Abd Allah Ibn al-A‘rabi was our neighbor, and his evenings were the most delightful. He told us that Ibn Abi Dawud asked him, ‘Do you know of istawā being used in the Arabic language with the meaning of “took possession”?’ He replied, ‘I do not know of it.’”
