656 — Yahya ibn Isma‘il ibn Zakariyya informed us. He said: Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Yahya ibn Bilal informed us. Abu al-Azhar Ahmad ibn al-Azhar narrated to us. He said: Wahb ibn Jarir ibn Hazim narrated to us. He said: My father narrated to me. He said: I heard Muhammad ibn Ishaq narrating from Ya‘qub ibn ‘Utbah, from Jubayr ibn Muhammad ibn Jubayr ibn Mut‘im, from his father, from his grandfather, who said:

A Bedouin came to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and said, “O Messenger of Allah, people have been exhausted, the dependants are hungry, and wealth has perished. Ask your Lord to send us rain, for we seek Allah’s intercession with you, and your intercession with Allah.”

The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Glory be to Allah! Glory be to Allah!” He continued glorifying Allah until this was apparent on the faces of his Companions. Then he said, “Woe to you! Do you know who Allah is? His majesty is far greater than that. Allah is not invoked as an intercessor with anyone. Indeed, He is above His heavens, over His Throne.”
