644—‘Abd al-Rahman said: Muhammad ibn ‘Asim ibn Muslim also mentioned him, saying: I heard Hisham ibn ‘Ubayd Allah say:

“Al-Marisi, in our view, is the successor of the misguided Jahm ibn Safwan and his heir apparent. In our view, he is like Balaam ibn Ba‘ura, concerning whom Allah said: ‘And recite to them the story of him to whom We gave Our signs, but he detached himself from them.’” [al-A‘raf 7:175]
