634 — Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi Hatim mentioned it, saying: Abd Allah ibn Muhammad al-Fadl al-Saydawi al-Asadi narrated to us: al-Hasan ibn al-Sabbah al-Bazzar narrated to us, from Abu Qudamah al-Sarakhsī, who said: I heard Khalaf ibn Sulayman al-Balkhi say:
“Jahm was from the people of Kufa and was eloquent, but he possessed no knowledge. Some Sumanis encountered him and spoke with him, saying, ‘Describe for us the One whom you worship.’ He replied, ‘Give me time.’ So they gave him time. Then he came out to them and said, ‘He is this air: with everything and within everything.’”
٦٣٤ - ذَكَرَهُ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ أَبِي حَاتِمٍ قَالَ: ثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْفَضْلُ الصَّيْدَاوِيُّ الْأَسَدِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ الصَّبَّاحِ الْبَزَّارُ، عَنْ أَبِي قُدَامَةَ السَّرَخْسِيِّ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ خَلَفَ بْنَ سُلَيْمَانَ الْبَلْخِيَّ، يَقُولُ ": كَانَ جَهْمٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْكُوفَةِ , وَكَانَ فَصِيحًا , لَمْ يَكُنْ عِنْدَهُ عِلْمٌ , فَلَقِيَهُ نَاسٌ مِنَ السُّمَنِيَّةِ , فَكَلَّمُوهُ , فَقَالُوا لَهُ: صِفْ لَنَا مَنْ تَعْبُدُ. قَالَ: أَجِّلُونِي , فَأَجَّلُوهُ , فَخَرَجَ إِلَيْهِمْ , قَالَ: هُوَ هَذَا الْهَوَاءُ مَعَ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ وَفِي كُلِّ شَيْءٍ "
