624 — Muhammad ibn Ahmad ibn Sahl informed us: Ibrahim ibn Muhammad ibn Yahya al-Muzakkī narrated to us: Abu Nasr al-Layth ibn Muhammad al-Marwazī narrated to us: Ali ibn al-Madīnī narrated to us: Abd Allah ibn Saʿīd al-Marwadhī narrated to us: I heard Ahmad ibn Muhammad—that is, al-Marwazī, a companion of Ahmad ibn Hanbal—say:
“I saw Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Hanbal in a dream. He was wearing two green garments, with sandals on his feet whose straps were of coral, and upon his head was a crown set with various kinds of jewels. So I said, ‘O Abu Abd Allah, what did Allah do for you?’ He replied, ‘He forgave me, crowned me, and clothed me. Then He said to me: “O Abu Abd Allah, I granted you this only because of your statement: The Quran is not created.”’”
