- Ahmad ibn Abi Tahir al-Faqih informed us: Umar ibn Ahmad informed us; Ali ibn Muhammad ibn Ahmad ibn Yazid al-Riyahi narrated to us; my father narrated to us; Yahya ibn Sulaym narrated to us; Abu Hayyan al-Basri narrated to us. He said: I heard al-Hasan say:
“No statement is sound without action; no statement and action are sound without intention; and no statement, action, and intention are sound without the sunnah.”
١٨ - أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ أَبِي طَاهِرٍ الْفَقِيهُ , أنبا عُمَرُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ , ثنا عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ يَزِيدَ الرِّيَاحِيُّ , ثنا أَبِي , نا يَحْيَى بْنُ سُلَيْمٍ , ثنا أَبُو حَيَّانَ الْبَصْرِيُّ , قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ الْحَسَنَ يَقُولُ: " لَا يَصِحُّ الْقَوْلُ إِلَّا بِعَمَلٍ , وَلَا يَصِحُّ قَوْلٌ وَعَمَلٌ إِلَّا بِنِيَّةٍ , وَلَا يَصِحُّ قَوْلٌ وَعَمَلٌ وَنِيَّةٌ إِلَّا بِالسُّنَّةِ
