619 — Muhammad ibn Ahmad ibn Sahl informed us: Muhammad ibn Abd Allah ibn Ibrahim informed us: Muhammad ibn Ubayd ibn Abi al-Asad informed us: I heard Muhammad ibn Mansur say:
“I saw the Prophet ﷺ in a dream, with two men whose faces I recognized. I said, ‘O Messenger of Allah, what are we to say concerning the Quran?’ He replied, ‘It is the speech of Allah, uncreated.’ I then said to the two men, ‘Bear witness,’ for they seemed as though they were awake.”
This was Muhammad ibn Mansur al-Tusi, the ascetic, from whom Abu Dawud al-Sijistani, Ibn Sa'id, and al-Mahamili narrated.
620 — Ibn Abi Hatim mentioned it, saying: Muhammad ibn Ubadah al-Wasiti mentioned that he heard his brother Yahya ibn Ubadah say: I heard a man from the people of Damascus, one from whom knowledge was recorded, say:
“I saw the Prophet ﷺ in my dream, and I knew that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had said, ‘Whoever deliberately lies about me, let him take his place in the Fire.’ ⦗403⦘ He said to me, ‘Tell Yahya ibn Aktham: Whoever says that the Quran is created has committed disbelief, and his wife has become separated from him.’”
The man then said, “By Allah, I have never seen Yahya, nor do I know him. Do you then think that I would lie about the Messenger of Allah ﷺ?”
621 — Abd al-Rahman also mentioned it, saying: Yusuf ibn Ishaq ibn al-Hajj narrated to us: Ahmad ibn al-Walid narrated to us: Ali al-Abid narrated to me:
“I saw the Prophet ﷺ in a dream at Abadan, and I said, ‘O Messenger of Allah, do you not see the disagreement in which we are embroiled concerning the Quran? This one declares that one an unbeliever, and that one declares this one an unbeliever.’
“He replied, ‘What blame is there upon me, when I have conveyed knowledge to you? One group embraced it, while others turned away from it.’
“I said, ‘O Messenger of Allah, then what is the Sunnah, and what should I say?’ He said, ‘Like this,’ making the hand-sign for thirty and pointing to his mouth, then saying, ‘It is the speech of Allah and is not created.’
“I said, ‘O Messenger of Allah, what of those who withheld judgment and said, “We do not say this or that”?’ His face then darkened, and he made a dismissive gesture with his hand.
