- Ahmad informed us: Muhammad narrated to us; Ahmad ibn Zuhayr narrated to us; Sulayman ibn Harb narrated to us; Hammad ibn Zayd narrated to us, from Asim, who said: Abu al-Aliyah said:
“Learn Islam; then, once you have learned it, do not turn away from it. Hold fast to the straight path, for it is Islam. Do not bend Islam to the right or to the left. Adhere to the sunnah of your Prophet and to the way his Companions followed. Beware of these vain desires that cast enmity and hatred among people ⦗63⦘.”
I related this to al-Hasan, and he said, “He spoke the truth and gave sincere counsel.”
He said: I then related it to Hafsah bint Sirin, and she said, “O Bahili, did you relate this to Muhammad?” I said, “No.” She said, “Then relate it to him.”
