The Statement of Abu Mus'ab Ahmad ibn Abi Bakr al-Zuhri
609 — ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi Hatim mentioned it, saying: Abu Bakr ‘Abd Allah ibn Muhammad ibn al-Fadl al-Asadi al-Saydawi narrated to us: Some people came to Abu Mus'ab al-Zuhri of Medina and said, “In our region, in Baghdad, there is a man who says that his utterance of the Quran is created.” He replied, “O people of Iraq, what reaches us from you here! We ought not receive you face-to-face except with swords. This is vile Nabataean speech.”
