We were informed:

577 — Ali ibn Muhammad ibn Ahmad ibn Ya‘qub and Ali ibn Muhammad ibn Umar informed us. They said: Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi Hatim informed us. He said: Al-Hasan ibn Arafah narrated to us. He said: Khalaf—that is, Ibn Khalifah—narrated to us, from Abu Malik al-Ashja‘i, from Rib‘i, from Hudhayfah, who said:

“Islam will soon wear away as a worn garment wears away. People will recite the Quran without finding any sweetness in it. Then they will go to sleep one night and awake with the Quran having been taken away overnight, as were the Scriptures before it, until it is removed from the heart of an elderly man and an old woman. They will no longer know the time of prayer, fasting, rites of worship, or anything of what they had once practiced.”
