568—Ahmad ibn Umar ibn Muhammad al-Isfahani informed us. He said: Umar ibn Ahmad ibn Ali informed us. He said: Muhammad ibn al-Walid narrated to us. He said: Muhammad ibn Ja'far narrated to us. He said: Shu'bah narrated to us, from Mansur, from Abu Wa'il, from Abd Allah, from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, who said: “It is a bad thing for one of you—or, ‘for one of them’—to say, ‘I have forgotten such-and-such a verse.’ Rather, he has been made to forget it. So review the Quran, for it escapes from men’s hearts more swiftly than camels escape from their hobbles.” Al-Bukhari recorded it through Shu'bah’s narration.

569—Abd Allah ibn Muslim and Ubayd Allah ibn Ahmad al-Muqri' informed us. They said: Al-Husayn ibn Isma'il informed us. He said: Yusuf ibn Musa narrated to us. He said: Jarir narrated to us, from Mansur, from Abu Wa'il, from Abd Allah, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “It is a bad thing for one of you to say, ‘I have forgotten such-and-such.’ Rather, he has been made to forget it. So review the Quran, for it is more apt to slip away from men’s hearts than camels from their hobbles.” ⦗379⦘ Likewise, Musaddad narrated it from Yahya, from Sufyan, from Mansur. Al-Bukhari also recorded it from Abu Nu'aym.
