549—Al-Hasan ibn Uthman informed us: Abdullah ibn Abd al-Rahman ibn Hammad informed us: Muhammad ibn Ubaydullah ibn Yazid narrated to us: Wahb ibn Jarir narrated to us: Shu‘bah narrated to us, from al-A‘mash, from Abu al-Duha, from Masruq, who said:

We asked Abdullah—and had it not been for Abdullah, we would not have found anyone to inform us. He said: “When Allah speaks the revelation, the inhabitants of the heavens hear a ringing like that of a chain upon a smooth rock.” He said: “They think it is from among the inhabitants of heaven, and so they are terrified. Then, when it subsides, ‘They say, “What has your Lord said?” They say, “The truth.” And He is the Most High, the Greatest.’” [Saba’ 34:23]
